<<< p1 ... < p4 < p5 < p6 < p7 < p8 < p9 < p10 < p11 < p12 < p13 page 14by Shintaro Kago. If you’ve never read anything by Shintaro Kago before (I hadn’t before this manga) then be warned (as I was): there is some really disgusting stuff in here. This manga is much more disgusting than scary, but that still makes for a good Halloween read. There’s even some meta commentary about manga and mysteries in general here, so this does rise above the normal slasher story. That being said, you read this primarily for the absurd gross outs it gives. And it really does those well.

The story begins by introducing Kotaro, who works at a coffee shop. The other girls who work there are gossiping about the slicing devil, who has recently been cutting girls in half. Surprise surprise, but it’s later revealed that Kotaro himself is the slicing devil, but soon a copycat killer shows up, and Kotaro wants to stop him so he is not found out. Meanwhile, Shintaro Kago (yes, the author is a character in this story) wants to write a mystery story rather than one filled with violence, and he decides to write about the slicing devil.
Every story segment with Kotaro gets more and more confusing as the mystery about the copycat killer and why Kotaro kills people gets more interesting and convoluted. It’s an interesting story, with a completely absurd payoff and answer that is helped slightly by the tangential story about Kago. In those segments, Kago talks about the different tricks that can be used for mysteries in manga, and the industry as a whole. Both stories compliment each other well and each one is improved by the other.
Both stories are full of interesting twists and turns, making for a wild ride, but as said earlier, everything is so completely ridiculous here. It’s clearly meant to be that way, but this can be somewhat off putting, especially since this is supposed to be more of a horror story. Overall the story works well though, and is one of the reasons to keep reading, even if it is just to see how ridiculous things get.

The characters on the other hand are very bland. Kotaro is a killer who regrets what he is doing and that’s it. Similar things can be said for the other characters. They are all rather bland, making any sort of twist associated with them less impactful. There isn’t development so speak of, and none of the characters are affected psychologically in any way. The characters are just here to do things in the plot. With the exception of Kago himself, who is mainly interesting because he is clearly representing the author. This adds a lot of meaning to his character and makes him much more interesting. It also builds into a few twists later on that normally would never happen.

As far as designs go, the characters are distinguishable and Kago does actually look like himself. The designs are not anything too special (except Kago’s of course because he looks exactly like he should), but they get the job done. They show off personalities well enough and are able to bring a variety of different emotions to the table. The design of the setting is a little better as there are quite a few unique aspects to it, and they all work very well. The setting is written with competency. It doesn’t feel like a complex world, but it gets the job done.
The art is the best thing about this manga. It is drawn with a great amount of detail, and is very stylized to show off ugliness, but everything still looks good. The manga almost dissects itself here, showing off the different techniques it uses to trick the viewer. The page layouts also create amazing flow and tension in addition to hiding information. The violent scenes are shown here in all their bloody glory and they are extremely effective. There really isn’t anything bad about the art. It might take a while to get used to at first, and the gross out scenes might be too much for some (seriously don’t read this, or any Kago stuff with a weak stomach), but that just means that it’s effective.
The 30 Best Manga For Beginners To Check Out
Every twist gets more ridiculous than the last, but it’s amazing. When Kago is revealed to be the copycat killer, the meta commentary scenes become so much more interesting and make a lot more sense. When Kotaro (and many others) are revealed to be handicapped people stuck together with another half person, it’s so ridiculous, but it fills in all the holes to the story. It’s an unsatisfying end to the mystery though because even with all the meta talk on mysteries, there’s no way any one could have guess the twist. The fun comes from figuring out the mystery not from being told it. Still, it works for a horror manga, it’s just uncertain if that’s what the series was going for in that moment. The twist about Kotaro finding Kago was a great final moment though.
There are also a few other short stories included in this collection and they range from gross to the grossest thing ever to funny and gross. They are all decent short reads on their on, and their inclusion here certainly doesn’t take away from anything. Most of them are only memorable for one or two scenes though, but this isn’t a big issue since they are so short.
Is worth it if you are looking for a good Halloween read. It isn’t the best mystery, but it does have some interesting meta aspects, and a lot of gross out moments. This series won’t stick with you like other horror does, but it’s still effective nonetheless. If you are looking for something more substantially written then look elsewhere, but if you want something unique and gross, then look no further. There really isn’t a whole lot to say about this work, but it is a great introduction to Kago’s works.
